The time has come, my little friends, to talk of other things: of shoes, and ships, and sealing wax, and… *ahem* Sorry. *g*

Yes, it's finally here. The day you've been waiting for. Posting day has finally arrived at thelittlebang.

As soon as you see this post in your flist/circle, you are free to start posting your projects to AO3.

Note: Everyone will have until 2359 EST on Monday, 31 October 2011 to post their projects, fiction and art/video alike. We're not expecting anyone to have an issue with this, as that means you've all had an additional 2 weeks to complete and post your projects. If, for some reason, you cannot post by this time, you will need to leave a comment here as to why you're unable to comply with this extended timeframe.

Master List
Once everyone's stories and art are posted, we will go through and create a master post and link everything together. Until that time, we will keep an in-progress masterlist on the comm profile.

Posting
All stories will be posted on AO3, all videos and/or artwork will be posted as suggested below. Once you have posted to the appropriate location, you will come back here to post an announcement. More on that a little later in this post.

Our parent collection on the AO3 is The Little Bang. We have separate subcollections for round one, which is open for anyone who wrote for round one, and a challenge for round two, which is now open.

Your fanwork should not be posted publicly on the internet until it has been live with TLB for at least one month.

Specific Posting Requirements & Headers
Below you'll find the specific header info required for fiction and complements when you post your links on the community.

Just a quick note to let y'all know that we are once again extending the due date for stories to be due for [community profile] thelittlebang.

We will have a post up before the weekend, marking out all the requirements for posting your projects and complements. We should also have a final answer on AO3 invites for those that need them. Speaking of which, who still needs an AO3 invite yet?

RL has been plaguing your mods this entire round, and we really appreciate everyone being so patient with us while we try to get everything resolved, both IRL and here on the community.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we'll get it answered asap.

thank you!

We've gotten complemeters signed up for 7 of the 11 projects eligible. You can find the other 4 possibilities on DW or LJ. Please consider taking on one of these projects for a complement.

And please feel free to pimp out this need for complementers to your circle/flist.

[personal profile] ariestess
Rules for signing up as a complementer.

By signing up as a complementer, you are agreeing to create at least one substantial piece of art for the story you choose. It can be a wallpaper, book cover, collage, video, or anything you can think up, as long as the effort and time you put into it reflects the effort and time and went into the story you're working from.

Artwork must be based off of the story you are assigned, not just the fandom the story is based in. For example, if the story you are working off of is about Teyla and Elizabeth's epic battle against evil space robots (and the hot sex they have after they p0wn said evil space robots) your art should be about that, and not about Teyla and Sora's pure love.

Artists must be willing to devote time and energy to their artwork. Participating authors will have devoted dozens of hours to writing and refining their stories by the posting deadline. Artists need to be willing to do the same. Don't just slap some pictures together and call it a wallpaper, or throw a few clips together haphazardly and call it a video. Please put some actual time and thought into what you're creating.

We understand that vids can take a lot of time and effort to put together, and we totally understand that a month is not the biggest chunk of time ever. even still, we ask that you create more than just a basic trailer for the story. Let's go with 1 minute as a bare minimum, and try to aim for more.

Once you've created a substantial piece of art, you can go as crazy as you want to creating more. Icons, friends-only banners, fanmix covers (and track listings) -- whatever you can think up!

When requesting the fandoms/creators that you'd like to work with, please note that these sign-ups are available on both Dreamwidth and LiveJournal. We will follow the timestamps and match you up on a first come, first served basis. We will reply to your sign-up comment to verify who you've been matched with. At that point, please contact your creator with the email address listed below.

Complement sign-up form:

comment subject line: [journal name] - artist sign-up

- journal name: the name of the journal you will be joining the community with
- email address: where you can be easily reached. @lj.com is not good enough
- do you agree to create at least one substantial piece of art for your assigned story: yes
- list your top 3 fandom choices, in order of preference: from the list below
- type of fanart you'll create: wallpaper, book cover, collage, video, something else [please verify with the mods on anything else first]

Please send your first draft to both [personal profile] ariestess @ spottyseal(at)gmail(dot)com & [personal profile] havocthecat @ havocthecat(at)gmail(dot)com. We will do our best to send out little "got it!" replies so you know we got your story. If you should happen to get one from both of us, please forgive us for both sending it off. *g*

Your subject line should be [username you signed up with] - ROUGH DRAFT

We need your story in plain text format. Though if you want to send a duplicate version in RTF as well (say, in case you used formatting, rather than putting in html tags), we are so not going to complain.

You should have the header that's behind the cut tag in at least two places: The start of your fic, and the body of your e-mail.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go back to frenetic typing. :)

First off, the mods would like to take this opportunity to officially say that all deadlines for [community profile] thelittlebang have been pushed back by one week. The updated remainder of the schedule is as follows:
  • Rough Drafts Due: September 19 by 23:59 EST

  • Editing, Complementary Fanworks Creation: September 20 - October 23
Claiming and creation of complementary fanworks, whether, fanart, vids, or written works.
    Editing of initial fanworks.

  • Posting Begins: October 24
Initial and complementary fanworks to be posted. Please note: Stories will be posted at the AO3. We will create a challenge for TLB. Fanart and vids will be hosted on alternate webspace. (If the AO3 is up and running on hosting fanart, it will be hosted at the AO3 as well, but we can't promise anything, of course.)

That aside, let me try to answer all of your questions about the rough draft process here.

When you say "first draft," what exactly do you mean?
For the purpose of [community profile] thelittlebang, we're defining "first draft" as: anything ranging from a mostly finished story that's just in need of a polishing beta to a story that has all of the major elements of plot/storyline included, but is missing some scene details/prose and is still in need of fairly deep beta-ing.

The following FAQs should help you figure out whether or not your draft fits into that (pretty broad) category.

The rest of the FAQs about rough drafts )

If you have any questions about first drafts that haven't been addressed, please feel free to ask them in the comments to this post and we'll do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.

First off, let me just thank each and every one of you that is hanging in with us for this round of [community profile] thelittlebang. To say that RL and/or Murphy's Law has had the mods firmly in their cross-hairs is an understatement.

But more importantly, this is a quick note to say that more detailed information will be posted to the comm tomorrow [Monday, 12 September 2011], and that the deadline for rough drafts being turned in is being extended. Full details WILL appear tomorrow, as will sign-ups for complementers. We just need to iron out a couple of last minute details before that can be done.

Once again, thank you for your patience, and I hope you're all doing well.

Okay, fellow thelittlebangers, the cheerleading assignments have been completed. The seven people who signed up as cheerleaders have been sent their assignments, but I'm also going to list the information here, so y'all can see how it worked out.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment or send a PM.

Where has the summer gone? We're already halfway through Week 10 of the initial creation phase. How did that happen?

How are your projects doing? Feel free to sound off with any squees or complaints you're having with your projects. And if you need to drop out, leave a message on the DW or LJ posts.

And just to let everyone know, we will have cheerleader assignments ready on Monday of next week, Tuesday at the latest. But before I do that, please leave a comment here if you DO NOT want a cheerleader assigned to you. That way, we can work through the assignments a little more easily and not make any unnecessary assignments.

Thanks! And keep on creating the femslashy goodness!

Okay, fellow TLBers, we are halfway through Week 9 of the initial creation phase. How is everyone doing?

Feel free to sound off with any squees or complaints you're having with your projects. And if you need to drop out, leave a message on the DW or LJ posts.

For myself, I'm in the process of changing my fandom/pairing for my project. The more I've been thinking about it, the more I need that original idea I had to stay original, rather than fannish. It just works better with the paranormal/supernatural aspect of it to be original characters. Or maybe it's just that Addison Montgomery just REFUSES to work with me on how to get it going using her. I swear, some of my muses are complete PIMAs! LOL! So I'm scavenging through my various story/plot ideas to see what will be more feasible to complying with the "let's get you written" mood I'm in.

Also, I wanted to note that, as of right now, we have 35 people signed up with initial creative phase projects and only 8 people willing to cheerlead or beta. This poses some logistical issues, and the mods will be doing a final decision on what we'll do for this situation. I know that I personally can play cheerleader to a great number of people, but I'm not sure I can handle the vast majority of creators in this project. LOL! Again, we should hopefully have a decision re: cheerleaders in particular by next week.

And now back to wrestling my [community profile] femslash11 assignments into submission.

Real Life (TM) always seems to have a way of inserting itself into the best of intentions and plans. Case in point, both [personal profile] havocthecat and I have been hit with pretty heavy doses of medically based RL.

If you need to drop out, for ANY reason, this is the best place to do it. We don't need to know the reason at this point, just that you're needing to drop out. Since we haven't assigned complements yet, this is a case of "no harm, no foul".

The people who have contacted me prior to this via PM, you're already taken care of in our spreadsheet of information.

Also, if you know of anyone who is willing to be a cheerleader and/or beta for the creators in [community profile] thelittlebang, please feel free to also leave a comment to that effect here. We are running at a serious deficit of cheerleaders/betas to creators.

Thanks in advance!
ariestess: (thelittlebang 2009 -- from thelittlebang)
[personal profile] ariestess
First things first... I'd like to say that the weekly mod posts that were originally going to alternate between your mods are being cut back some, due to RL health and surgery issues for [personal profile] havocthecat. [community profile] thelittlebang is still going strong, she just might not have as visible a presence as initially planned for the next while.

This also means that the beta/cheerleader match-ups may take a little longer than initially planned. We are hoping to have that completed before the end of the month for all of you.

In other news, we're 1/3 of the way through the initial creative phase, and it's time for a word count check. To go with the three months of creation idea, that' means everyone should be somewhere around 5k words completed at this point. If you're more than that, more power to ya! If you're less than that, it's not the end of the world.

I will freely admit that I haven't even started mine yet.

So, how's everyone doing on their projects? Are your muses cooperating? Getting a lot of words written? Hit a brick wall on the creativity front?

And for the check-in itself, I'm going to borrow a template from [livejournal.com profile] sentinelbigbang, because it works out really nicely, and turn it into a textarea box for you to c/p. You don't have to use the template if you don't want to. Feel free to modify as needed.

Feel free to share some details about your project, maybe a summary or some hints, but please don't post actual extracts. We may have a post for that sort of thing later on down the line.

Week three! I hope everyone is creating away. As we all (or most of us) know, femslash can gravitate to rarer fandoms, and there's also the yuri - femslash divide. In the interests of making sure everyone knows the basics of the fandom that you're creating in, I would love for everyone that feels comfortable doing so to talk about their fandom.

It would be the best thing ever to find new media sources to play around with! For example, I discovered Puella Magi Maodka Magica after someone signed up for it here. I'm not the most anime-savvy person on the planet either, so I always appreciate recs.

Like usual, we want to try to make it comfortable for everyone. So, those who are comfortable with structure, please feel free to use the template. Anyone who's not comfortable with structure, please go freeform! This is an anything-goes kind of post.

Our sign-up period - the official one - has ended! I'd have said something on Monday, when it actually ended, but I had this whole big thing with being sick and antibiotics not working, and my sinuses actually hate me a whole lot. Which, so much fun.

But that's not the important thing. The important thing is that we're now officially in the creating phase! Starting next week, I'll be going through and making sure everyone who is on the comm is also signed up, and we'll be doing members-only posts about writing, art, fandom pimping, things like that. We'll be doing monthly word counts too. I'll also post a list of the fandoms that people are creating in.

Have fun with the femslash!

So far, we have 25 creators signed up, and only one fan artist signed up for the initial phase. I think that, perhaps, we need to expand our visual fanworks advertising. Can anyone point me in the direction of some good art comms? Thanks very much!

It's been ages since we've done the first round of TLB. Since 2009, as a matter of fact. In the intervening two years, a whole lot of things have happened, and so we've got some changes.

First of all, [livejournal.com profile] thenewhope and [livejournal.com profile] quasiradiant have been forced to gafiate out of fandom (at least for a while, though we hope to see them back!), so we'll be running with a different mod team: [personal profile] havocthecat, [personal profile] ariestess, and [personal profile] twtd.

Also, we've gotten the Archive of Our Own, and we'll be doing fic posting in a collection there. If you don't have an account, don't worry! I've sent in a request for invitations for anyone who doesn't already have an account. It's not an exchange, so we're not doing sign-ups at the AO3, but we will do fic posting there. Art posting too, more likely than not.

Third, the format has changed. There will still be an initial phase, an editing phase, and a complement phase. This time, the initial phase of the challenge will be open for both visual and written fanworks. That means that vidders and artists will be welcome to participate and have a complementary written work posted.

Last of all, this community and [community profile] bangalittle will be mirrored here and at LiveJournal.
