As we said right at the start, we will not be assigning betas and critiquers. This, however, is a post for people to look for betas, and for people to volunteer as betareaders.
i can beta read anything under 20k with 2 weeks notice. the fandoms i write in are merlin and inception. i read in harry potter and dr. who as well. i know it's ideal if i were in your fandom, but i can beta any fandom, really, as long as it has a wiki that can explain backstory and characters to me.
This is what I would say my beta strengths are: spotting telling instead of showing, commenting on flow and prose, helping nudge a writer in a direction she's trying to go, making suggestions for keeping a character in-character within the fic, trying to describe my reaction as a reader thoroughly, cheerleading, and trying very hard not to impose my own ideas on the writer's story. Like I work hard to not overedit the prose, or make too many plot suggestions, unless you really ask for that.
My beta weaknesses are: SPAG (I can spot split infinitives, incorrect verb tenses, and the odd misspelled word, etc etc but in that area I'm not super savvy.)
Also, I can give you as much or as little feedback as you need. So if you say, ok just give me 2 things in general you think need improvement about this draft and one thing you like, then I can do that. Or you can say, go in there and mark shit up and give me all the feedback you can.
